The Transport Department in Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to tackle road accidents by implementing a comprehensive action plan, following the directives of CM Yogi Adityanath.

In an effort to reduce road accidents by 50%, a 15-day Road Safety Fortnight is scheduled to be observed across the entire state from December 15 to 31.

The initiative will involve inter-departmental coordination and focus on addressing key factors such as overspeeding, wrong-side driving, mobile phone usage, and drunk driving, which have been identified as major causes of road accidents through departmental surveys.

During the fortnight, the fitness of all school vehicles and the medical fitness of drivers will be rigorously examined, and health cards will be mandatory for commercial drivers.
